OCYA Youth Houselessness Surveys for People With Lived or Professional Experience

OCYA is seeking feedback to better understand the causes of youth houselessness in Alberta, available services and supports, and what can be done to better support young people at risk of becoming unhoused.

The Office of the Child and Youth Advocate is working on a report about youth houselessness. They define unhoused as “without stable, permanent, appropriate housing, or the immediate prospect, means and ability to acquire it.” This includes young people who are living rough, in an emergency shelter, couch surfing, or in unsafe housing.

They are engaging with young people who have lived experience with houselessness. They also want to hear from natural supports (such as guardians, caregivers or family), adults (24+) who experienced houselessness, and service providers who work directly with unhoused young people.  They will be collecting feedback through in-person interviews held across the province and online surveys.

They are inviting people with lived or professional experience of youth houselessness to share their insights through one of two surveys, open until August 31, 2025:
