This course provides caregivers with tools and language to educate themselves and talk to the children and youth in their care about drugs and drug use, including opioids. It contains foundational knowledge about drug use, including, why children and youth use substances, the types of substances youth may use, the spectrum of substance abuse, harm reduction approaches, and the risks of drug misuse including overdose. Overdose responses, including naloxone are discussed as is the Good Samaritan Law. It intends to increase caregiver confidence and practical preparedness for dealing with possible legal and illicit opioid substance use. It will ensure caregivers understand their role as part of a team that educates, protects, and supports the children and youth in their care.
Registration is FREE and coffee/tea will be provided.
