CWLC members: Researching the Impact of Service Provider Education (RISE) October 2021

Message from CWLC to CWLC Members October 26, 2021

As part of a national study funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada, the Child Welfare League of Canada (CWLC) has partnered with a team of researchers from McMaster University, the University of Toronto, the University of Calgary, and McGill University. The goal of this partnership is to help understand and then address health and social service providers’ educational needs and preferences related to increasing their skills and confidence to recognize and respond to family violence in their practice, where family violence includes child maltreatment, intimate partner violence, and children’s exposure to intimate partner violence. CWLC expects the results of this partnership and research project will ultimately benefit the work of our organization and our members, particularly as we continue to hear about increases in family violence during COVID-19.

We are reaching out to our membership to ask for your participation in the second phase of the project. At this time, the research team is interested in participating in an individual user-testing session of the Violence, Education, Guidance, Action (VEGA) online educational intervention. Participation will involve a 60- minute user-testing session with a member of the research team, which will take place via Zoom

The team is recruiting individuals who: (a) are 18 years of age or older; (b) are a trainee or practicing physician or social worker residing in the province of Québec, Alberta, or Ontario; (c) have the ability to provide informed consent and complete project activities in either English or French; and (d) are willing to complete user-testing procedures online. User-testing sessions are available in both English and in French.

In appreciation of each participant’s time, a $100.00 e-gift card to either Amazon, Chapters-Indigo, or Mastercard will be emailed to the participant after the interview has been completed.

If your preference is English, and you are interested in learning more about this study and/or are willing to participate, please contact the Research Coordinator, Dr. Anita Acai at: acaia@mcmaster.ca.
