Government of Canada Responds to the Report of the Consultation Panel on the Political Activities of Charities
On March 7, the Minister of National Revenue officially responded to the Report of the Consultation Panel on the Political Activities of Charities. The Panel’s previous recommendations include:
- Revise Canada Revenue Agency’s (CRA) administrative position and policy. (View CCVO’s response to the draft guidance here.)
- Implement changes to CRA’s administration of the Income Tax Act.
- Amend the Income Tax Act be deleting any reference to nonpartisan political activities to explicitly allow charities to fully engage without limitation in public policy dialogue and development activities
- Modernize the legislative framework governing the charitable sector.
