ALIGN Communication Memo #19

Dear Members,

As you know Premier Jason Kenney presented the province’s plan last week to gradually open the economy. “He indicated that the strategy involves opening the economy in three stages, with the first being implemented as early as May 14th. Provisions were included to stipulate that certain triggers would be used to help determine if Alberta can open faster or if regression is necessary. Full details about the relaunch strategy can be found here . “

The Alberta Government is providing support to the disability community to help navigate this crisis. “Government is working with disability service provider partners to provide personal protective equipment, help maintain staffing, and develop policies to allow for easier access to supports and help ensure the well-being of individuals and families. A reference guide on COVID-19 for people with disabilities has also been developed to provide information on how to stay safe and limit the spread of the virus. This guide is available online .”

“My Hero is You” book was a project developed by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee Reference Group on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings. Over 1,700 children, parents, caregivers and teachers from around the world took the time to share how they were coping with the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a story developed for and by children around the world.
