Alberta’s government is investing $300,000 in the Be the VOICE program, which leverages the influence of professional and university athletes to promote healthy behaviours in young Albertans. The athletes, who are called ‘ambassadors’ once trained, deliver up to eight weeks of programming to youth, which includes teaching them to become mentors as well. The long-term training model provides them with the confidence, skills and resources to intervene safely and to challenge and disrupt abusive or violent behaviours
